On Thursday, January 11th, 2024, Benton Harbor Tigers went against the Brandywine Bobcats in basketball. The boys’ varsity game was originally scheduled for Friday, but due to weather conditions, the game got rescheduled to Thursday. Rescheduling the game didn’t stop the crowd from showing up to support both teams. The bleachers were packed on both sides. The crowd was full of screaming fans rooting for each team. This game was heated because Brandywine's overall team record was 9-1; meanwhile, Benton Harbor’s overall team league was 10-0.
The game started with a lot of intensity. Mustapha Muhammed dunked on Jeremiah Palmer on Brandywine, and both players from each team started pushing and shoving each other, almost causing a fight. The cops and many people from the stands came onto the floor for a minute. Muhammed and Palmer were both ejected from the game.
Around the end of the first quarter, Javon Mason scored and did the “baby cradle” in the direction of a Bobcat player. The refs called a technical foul on him for that. The end of the first quarter score was 18-14, with the Tigers leading.
During the second quarter, the Tigers had a huge lead, with the score being 28-17. The crowd was roaring and cheering for both sides. Josiah King had 12 points. During the end of the second quarter, the score was 33-27, and the Tigers were still holding the lead. Josiah King and Byron Linley both had 14 points for their team.
In the third quarter, Antwan Callahan continued scoring many buckets for the Tigers, who were still leading with the score being 41-33. Brandywine players scored a couple three-point baskets, keeping them still in the game. The end of the third quarter score was 55-44, with the Bobcats catching up to the Tigers, and keeping the score close.
Finally, in the last quarter, the final score was 72-59, with the Tigers taking home the victory, and making their overall record 11-0. Overall, this was a very hype game to watch with Benton Harbor Tigers and the Brandywine Bobcats. The Bobcats will be able to have another chance to rematch against the Tigers on February 16th, 2024, at Brandywine High School.
