Benton Harbor, Mich. — Benton Harbor Area Schools (BHAS) is proud to announce the appointment of Keith Sanders as the new Principal of Benton Harbor High School, and Latasha Heggler-Thomas as the new Director of Special Education.
Both leaders bring exceptional experience, demonstrated results, and a deep commitment to serving the students and families of Benton Harbor. Their leadership aligns with the district’s mission to develop skilled, inspired learners prepared for global success.
Keith Sanders – Principal, Benton Harbor High School
Keith Sanders joins Benton Harbor High School with a proven record of strengthening school culture, improving instructional practices, and driving student achievement. Mr. Sanders has served as CEO of the Keith Sanders Group, Chief Officer of School Turnaround for the Delaware Department of Education, and co-founder/principal of Miller McCoy Academy. With experience leading school turnaround efforts and supporting academic growth at the state and district levels, he brings the leadership and focus needed to help our high school continue moving forward.
Latasha Heggler-Thomas – Director of Special Education
Already a trusted and impactful leader in our district, Latasha Heggler-Thomas steps into the role of Director of Special Education after years of providing high-quality support to students and staff. She has nearly two decades of experience, including instructional facilitation, classroom teaching, and serving as an Interim Principal. Her deep experience with special education systems and her strong relationships within BHAS uniquely position her to lead this work. Mrs. Heggler-Thomas is deeply committed to inclusive practices, equity, and ensuring high-quality support for students across the district.
