Dear Tiger Families:
At Benton Harbor Area Schools, we believe that real progress begins with a clear look at where we are and a firm commitment to where we are going. While we recognize that our district still has significant work ahead to realize the potential of every classroom, we are encouraged by the steady growth shown in our recent assessments.
The following data from the NWEA MAP Growth assessments (Fall 2025 to Winter 2026) highlights the areas where our students are beginning to build real momentum:
Benton Harbor High School: Our high schoolers achieved 39% growth in ELA and 23% growth in Math.
Discovery Enrichment Center: Kindergarten learners showed 13% growth in Math.
District-Wide Proficiency: Overall proficiency in ELA nearly doubled, jumping from 13% in the Fall to 25% this Winter. District Math proficiency also saw a climb from 9% to 16%.
These results reflect the steady momentum our students are building as they work toward their academic goals, as well as the dedication our exceptional staff demonstrates daily in their commitment to our scholars. These numbers represent more than just data—this is the "Tiger Spirit" in action. While we celebrate these milestones, we remain focused on maintaining this trajectory to ensure every child in Benton Harbor reaches their full potential.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us shine a light on the progress of our students. It truly is a great day to be a Tiger!
With pride,
Dr. Simone Griffin
Superintendent
