SEND-OFF MOMENTUM!!
Our Civil Rights Trail Tour is officially underway!
We couldn’t have asked for a more powerful launch to this historic journey. Our students, families, and staff were blessed with an unforgettable Send-Off Celebration—complete with inspiration, wisdom, and truth from two of Benton Harbor’s own: Sharon and Mack Brown, founders of the Unified Civic Monuments Project and co-directors of the African-American History and Literature Gallery.
Their dynamic presentation set the tone for the entire tour, reminding us that history is not just something we study—it’s something we walk in, live through, and rise from. With passion and purpose, they spoke life into our youth, helping them understand the weight of the legacy they’re stepping into.
Sharon and Mack Brown have been instrumental in the creation and installation of not one, but TWO Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. monuments—one in Benton Harbor and the other just across the river in St. Joseph, Michigan. Their work is a testament to what it means to honor the past, reclaim our stories, and stand boldly in the truth of who we are.
This is more than a trip.
It’s a rite of passage.
It’s a spiritual awakening.
It’s a charge to be legacy builders.
Thank you, Sharon and Mack Brown, for lighting the flame.
Atlanta, here we come.
The ancestors are walking with us.
And the future is riding on our shoulders.
